Last week Trent Reznor posted that he was going to make Nine Inch Nails "disappear for a while".

He spoke to Richard Kingsmill from the Sydney Soundwave Festival on Sunday and clarified that he's not absolutely ending the band, just putting a stop on all touring.

And he revealed what he plans for the near future.

"I think my time would be spent as a human being working on music obviously because I really can't not do that but not with this endless cycle of just keep going out, out, out. I need to get centred again and become sane. These been a growing list of things I'd like to work on outside of Nine Inch Nails. Some of them music, some of them not. The list is getting bigger but I haven't even started working on it yet. I just want to try some things and that might send me immediately back to working on nine Inch Nails or it might lead off on a different path."

Reznor signalled he has an interest in working in television production and said he's also keen to play more piano.

He also revealed that he’s done some producing for the legendary indie act Jane’s Addiction. He was around when their original line-up was brought together after years of strained relations.

"We talked about working on some new music and went in the studio and recorded a few tracks. Some new stuff and some old stuff. I'm not sure where that's going to wind up. That was me wrangling them in to being in the same studio together. I walked in to a minefield to be honest with you. Because I knew them, all independently but I'd never really recently spent any time with them. I could understand why they broke up the first time, just weird interpersonal things that needed to be worked out like any gang of people. And these guys hadn't been around each other much since '91. So the challenge I was faced with was trying to get them to communicate and feel good about what they're doing and record something that had merit. We succeeded in some ways, we failed in other ways but it was a process that got everybody talking and that led to use talking about maybe touring together and it seemed to make sense."

Nine Inch Nails and Jane’s Addiction will spend a couple of months touring amphitheatres through the US in the middle of the year.

For the next couple of weeks Nine Inch Nails will be in Australia for Soundwave with shows in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth.
