Saw this last night! Fucking awesome!!

2 words that best describe this movie: DARK and INTENSE. This may seem like quite an obvious description...but honestly, nothing can prepare you for the emotional journey that this film manages to take you on. I would even go so far as to compare it to something like The Empire Strikes Back...something no sequel has ever even come close to IMO...

If you enjoyed the first one, you will LOVE this. Even if the first one didn't do much for you...this is still a must see...purely for Ledgers epic performance. He steals the show in every scene that he is in...and leaves Bale's performance as Batman for dead. I would be very surprised if Ledger doesn't receive some posthumous recognition come award season. This is easily the role of his career...and the one he will be remembered for...

Having said all that, this film is far from perfect...there are a few cringe worthy moments...and I wasn't a fan of the ending...but on a whole, a very enjoyable experience indeed...

Was also a very emotional moment when Ledgers name came up in the credits at the end, and everyone applauded...

RIP Heath...

Mr Bale was arrested for assault!

Maybe he took his superhero powers a little too seriously...

I agree with most of that, although when I saw it last night, the only emotional moment regarding Heath Ledger was the first scenes in the movie seeing him as it really did feel like I was seeing a ghost. I don't remember anyone applauding during the credits (which I stuck around until after they'd finished). More of a honourary silence.

It is called The Dark Knight for a reason. However, I think that word is too vague to best describe it, though fitting to be in the title. Sinister, violent, twisted, warped, ingenius, fast, powerful, hilarious, serious, eerie, insane, brilliant, amazing, awesome are other words that I would use to describe it. And yes, I think it's one of the best movies to come out in years, if not indeed the best movie since The Empire Strikes Back. Other than Batman Returns and LotR: Two Towers, I don't think any other sequels compare. But what would I know about movies. All I know is that from a subjective experience, this film had a profound effect on me and has a personal significance that I can barely convey in any way at all... truly my favourite movie of this decade, perhaps my entire life. So many things lead up to it... Batman/Joker have always been part of my life, since watching the Adam West series in my earliest memories, watching the 1989 Tim Burton Batman movie in the cinema when I was six, Batman Returns, etc.

To be quite frank, prior to this I ranked Heath Ledger fairly poorly as an actor, perhaps because I'd only seen him in dumb movies such as 10 Things I Hate About You and A Knight's Tale. This was something completely different from him, completely convincing as the criminally insane villain far from the stable masculine strong "good guy" characters I'd seen him as before. Seems his voice was influenced by Jack Nicholson (And someone else... perhaps even Patton?) and similar to loony roles played by Johnny Depp, but even if he was imitating any of those, that's a feat in itself. I honestly believe this role was Heath Ledger's life purpose and his presence on Earth ended having that fulfilled. Much like Brandon Lee with The Crow. Neither of them could have outdone those performances. I'm thoroughly impressed. Sorry for called him an ugly bastard! He was no worse looking than me (even with the cheek-scars!).

Quite a rollecoaster of a cinematic experience The Dark Knight is. To say the least.
