I remember thinking Babel and 21 Grams were ok. Fairly slow moving...

Hard Candy

Well, I'll start off by saying that this is a fairly full on film (One scene in particular will have all the boys wincing). Hard hitting and confrontational as far as the subject matter goes. First half is better than the second though...and I'm not a huge fan of the ending, which ends up having a typical "revenge flick" type feel to it.

Hayley Stark does a great job in her role, almost too good, and fares much better than Patrick Wilson, who's performance starts out strong but ends up becoming fairly cliche and unemotional...

Great stuff though, and it certainly gets you thinking...

Hedwig and the Angry Inch

Based on an off-Broadway musical of the same name, the story manages to tackle some fairly tough subject matter with style and aplomb. John Cameron Mitchell absolutely shines as the protagonist, and actually turns in a tour de force in the directors chair as well. From the colorful sets and costumes, to the fantastic musical score, this film manages to engage it's audience at a constant heightened sense, whilst not coming across as too preachy or alienating. Whilst the overlying theme is definitely transgenderism, the film slowly morphs into a story of finding ones true inner (and consequently outer) self, a journey that people from all walks of life can relate to. The final scene hit me the hardest, delivering in stark contrast to the rest of the film, a very raw, brave and honest, not to mention refreshing, conclusion...

Yeah, a friend of mine was telling me how amazing he was.

Rocky Horror should be awesome. He was made for that role...

I've been meaning to check out Arrested Development. I've heard good things about it...just haven't gotten around it yet...
