Owen Wilson attempts suicide - hospitalised

Owen Wilson is reportedly in a serious condition in a Los Angeles hospital after a suspected suicide attempt.

The Wedding Crashers star was admitted to St John's hospital in Los Angeles yesterday after the police department responded to a medical assistance call from the fire department around midday, according to website and newspaper reports.

He was then transferred by ambulance to another LA hospital, the Cedars Sinai, around 4pm where his condition was initially listed as "grim". He has since stabilised.

A well known Los Angeles criminal attorney and police were present at the hospital, according to reports. Wilson's two brothers were also there.

Owen's brother, Luke, was seen leaving the Cedars Sinai in a BMW with a blond friend several hours after Owen was transferred, Entertainment Tonight reported.

Owen Wilson in suicide attempt?

HOLLYWOOD star Owen Wilson has been rushed to hospital after cutting his wrists and taking a lot of pills during a suicide attempt at his Santa Monica house, according to the National Enquirer and Star Magazine.

The report claims that he was discovered by a family member who summoned help.

Police and an ambulance responded to a 911 call from Owen's house around noon on Sunday and witnesses claims that his wrist was sutured and bandaged at the hospital.

Gossip website TMZ released this statement from Santa Monica Police:

"On Sunday Aug. 26. 2007 at 12.10pm officers from the Santa Monica Police Department responded to a medical assistance call from the Santa Monica Fire Department at the 900 block of 23rd Street.

The person was transported to a local hospital where they are being treated." TMZ has learned the 911 call came in at 11.59am to the L.A. Fire Department.

National Enquirer editor-in-chief David Perel tells gossip website PerezHilton.com:

“Owen Wilson has now been transferred from St. John’s to another Los Angeles area hospital. His brothers Andrew and Luke are with him.

“Andrew found him after the suicide attempt and called an ambulance. Both of Owen’s wrists were slashed superficially and Owen had taken an overdose of pills.

“Owen was found with a nearly empty bottle of pills next to him. He was at his house in Santa Monica.”

Wilson is in a stable condition.

Jackson lashes out during visit to Wilson

Samuel L. Jackson has given paparazzi hanging around Owen Wilson's hospital a verbal lashing while visiting the recovering Wedding Crashers star.

Wilson was admitted hospital yesterday after what is widely believed to be a suicide attempt.

A low-key Jackson walked into the Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles dressed in shorts, t-shirt and what appeared to be an old fishing hat.

"I came here to visit Owen Wilson, get the **** away from me, alright," he said to waiting celebrity photograhers.

When one paparazzo apparently apologised, Jackson fired up again.

"Yeah, everybody's sorry, why the **** are you guys here?" he said.

When the cameramen said they were "there for the story", Jackson sarcastically asked "what story is that?"

In another development, a statement issued in Wilson's name has called for privacy.

"I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time," Wilson said in a statement released by his representative to celebrity website TMZ.com.

A spokeswoman at Cedars Sinai said Wilson was in a "good condition."

There was no official word on the reasons for Wilson's hospitalization however reports said the actor had attempted suicide.

Later Monday, sources close to the actor cited by syndicated entertainment television show Extra said Wilson had attempted to take his own life.

The source cited by the show said Wilson had been discovered by his brother Luke and that the actor's family and friends were in shock.

Santa Monica police and fire department issued a statement saying that medical aid had been dispatched to Wilson's address in Santa Monica.

The statement said "a person" was taken to local hospital but did not provide any details. Local media reported unidentified police sources confirming that the person treated was Wilson.

Wilson is regarded as one of Hollywood's most bankable actors, having appeared in a string of hit comedies.

He was nominated for an Academy Award for his writing work on The Royal Tenenbaums in 2001, in which he also starred with brother Luke Wilson and close friend Ben Stiller.

Wilson has also been romantically linked to You, Me and Dupree co-star Kate Hudson although their relationship recently ended.

Wilson is currently working on a new comedy with Stiller, Tropic Thunder.

Maybe he couldn't live with how bad an actor he is?

I mean, Zoolander is one of the funniest movies I've ever seen, but every film his characters are pretty much the same.

Weird how his brother plays a character the attempts suicide in the Royal Tannebaums.

Anyways, hope he's able to sort his shit out. Personally I'm not surprised... partially because he's a Scorpio, partially because the happiest dudes are often the saddest too.
