Help the Sando...

Some news from The Sando.....

Firstly, we have our DA approved and construction certificate for the new room upstairs that will give us around 280 capacity. This space includes a bar and a chill out area with screens for watching the performers on stage. There's be no stainless steel bars or ritzy furniture, just a great live space and more than reasonable drink prices. There is however one snag....

Every two years we have to renew with the council our extended license trading hours (Monday to Saturday close at 2am, Sunday at 10pm). The time for renewal is now and our submission has gone to council for assessment & advertising.

Recently, some local residents called the hotel into a section 104 hearing with the LAB citing a number of issues regards the hotel disturbing the quite and good nature of the neighbourhood. Needless to say we have been blamed for all of Newtown's criminal activity and disturbances.

Our extended hours renewal request will be put before an open council meeting in August and the same residents have pre-empted the LAB findings in their objection letters to council and have lobbied considerably hard to take away our late night privileges. Residents will have their say at the council meeting and I am sure produce various letters, petitions, testimonies etc in support of their objections so we need to do the same!!!

I ask you personally to help us in any way possible. We need emails of support (sent to sandobookings@hotmail.com) and/or we need people to help us survive by coming into the hotel and signing the petition available at the bar and at the door for all shows.

Thanks in anticipation of your support,
Darren

Really, as if the criminal activity is coming from the little old Sando. They must be confusing it with the Townie.
