Cool photos!
I can't wait for Nick Bezzinas...

I've finally managed to gather some thoughts on Saturday night...

The night flew by, and it's all still quite surreal. It's hard to come to terms with the fact that it's been and gone, due to all the stress and build up that came before it...

Firstly it was so good to see so many familiar faces, friends and family there showing their support, in particular for Chantel. She has put a lot of effort into this project, and deserved a great night. You all made it possible, and I for one am very appreciative of all you being there...

Now, onto the gig itself...

Fish Fingazz did nothing for me. Other people seemed to enjoy it though...

Mz Ann started off shaky, managing to gather momentum a few songs in. The sound wasn't great at first either, but it also balanced out a few songs in. Stand out songs were Silent Scream, Dynamite and the song I always forget the name of and just call the FNM one...Stage presence was great, especially from Chantel. You looked so deadly cute Chantel...ha ha...

The general vibe in the room was great, especially right down the front, and I feel the performance was recieved well. It definitely wasn't the best I have seen Mz Ann, but it was still pretty fucking good, especially considering the size of the room and stage. In the end I was left with the feeling that I could get used to Mz Ann playing to large rooms and numbers on a regular basis. I can honestly see it happening in the future...

Chantel, you were fantastic, and I'm, definitely your biggest fan. I love you, and you made me very fucking proud on Saturday...

Thank you, Luis.

You already know how much I appreciate all the work that YOU have put in to this project as well and without you we would not have had such a success with the EP and the EP Launch.

I had heaps of fun.

Well I thought I'd throw my 2 cents in on the whole thing.

Having been at Club Blink before, I missed all the supports which was a shame because I wanted to see Fish Fingazz post-Denis, though I'm sure that they wouldn't have interested me all that much.

I'm not really a fan of Mz Ann Thropik, and if Channy wasn't in the band I wouldn't have shown up. But that aside, this show was a lot better than the last time I saw Mz Ann, which was many a year ago at the Hopetoun Hotel supporting Switchkicker (from memory...)

I was qutie impressed by the stage presence of the band. The outfits were pretty funny, but with the theatrics of Mz Ann it did work really well. I've never been a fan of Kerry's guitar sounds, and he can't escape that MM9 sound, but his energy is always great. Same with you Channy, I was very impressed by the way you conducted yourself on stage, and the biscuit thing was cute, as was the outfit. You should be very proud of your performance.

To be honest, the aspect for me that lets you down is Magdelena. She's great from an image point of view, and it's no doubt that one of the reasons that Mz Ann has a following is the image (you just had to look at the crowd) but her vocal performance is fairly weak, as are her melody lines. Also, the in-between song banter was hilarious, but tragically so. No doubt I'll get hounded for that, but that's how it felt from an outsider's perspective. The suicide comments were cringeworthy.

Dynamite for me was the strongest song on the night: catchy and a good hook line, and one that got your feet moving. The others were solid, but again they didn't really grab me.

I guess it's a difficult predicament: Mz Ann have been able to garner a fanbase with an image that the crowd can relate to, but in doing so it alienates the rest of the music fan population. The challenge I see is to rise above the image, where it becomes an accompaniment to the music, rather than the drawing card.

Though I'm looking forward to hearing the EP because judging by what I've heard so far, Luis you've done a killer job on the production.
I touched her hand... her hand touched her boob. By the transitive property, I got boob! Algebra's awesome!

I pretty much agree with everything you've stated, Dom.

They DO have the songs though. Strong ideas and solid bases anyway. It's what I obviously tried to concentrate on during the recording. I feel that Mz Ann lacks focus with the songwriting, on account of their being SO many strong creative personalities in the band. It's why I think they also benefit greatly from the recording process, along with an outsider coming in and listening to things objectively, focusing on the song, and bringing everything together to form a solid unified sound.

I really hope they learned from the experience they had with me.

But then again, what do I know...

The song quality will come if the current line up stays together. That has been the biggest hurdle to the bands success over the years as I have seen it; the frequent line up change and the need to re-work the writing dynamics. It's like taking 2 steps forward, one step back.

Mags vocals have always needed work, but she has come a hell of a long way in the last year and a bit - she'll get there.

Sucks I missed this show, couldn't be helped but I'm looking forward to hearing the EP.
