A man who had been partying at a Sydney music festival is dead after being run over by a semitrailer in Newtown overnight, with police arresting another man - not the truck driver - over the incident.
Police said a 21-year-old who had attended the Soundwave Festival at Sydney Park in St Peters was walking along King Street in Newtown when he fell under a passing semitrailer about 9pm near the railway station.
Ambulance officers treated the man in the street but were unable to save him.
After speaking with the truck driver, a 21-year-old South Bowenfels man was arrested by police.
He was not the driver, police said.
He is currently in custody at Newtown police station where investigators are trying to work out the circumstances surrounding the pedestrian's death.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Newtown police on 9550 8199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
