Picked up this album the other day. The long awaited follow up to their debut, which didn't impress me much. I saw them a few times whilst they were touring for Begins here, and thought they were a great live band, but on CD they kind of fell flat for me.
This new album, while still very much a TBE album in every way, is miles ahead of Begins Here, in terms of songwriting, production & execution.
The opening instrumental, Imago, is absolutely beautiful, I just wish it went for longer! Second track Aisles Of White is also a stand out track. But the shining moment on Imago is the first single A Slow Descent. By far the best TBE song released so far in their career. I cannot hype this song enough. A heavy melodic masterpiece, with one hell of a killer riff in the verses. Clint's voice is probably the best and most diverse I've heard.
In terms of production it is hard to fault.
Now, I'm not saying this album is perfect. In the end it lags a bit for me. But that has more to do with my attention span than anything else. For people that really dig this kind of music, they'd be hard pressed to find an aussie band doing it better. While they don't really break any stylistic boundaries, there is enough light and dark moments on here to keep most fans happy.
Probably the one thing that has impressed me above all else about this release, is the artwork and imagery created around Imago. From their logo, CD artwork, advertising, website, it's all marketed together seemlessly and beautifully. Huge fan of the dark sepia driven, cage, girl, fields, butterflys. I guess it helps when you retain the services of one of the biggest UK creative consultancy firms, Stylorouge.

Looking forward to seeing them live...
