For me a "clash of personalities" means that there must have been some heated moments in the relationship from either side....

Disagree.....

Just because there is a clash or personalities doesn't mean there has to be heated moments.

If both parties are proffesional about the situation then their relationship (personality specific) doesn't matter.

Of course it fucking matters.

I OWN my own business. I have A LOT of shit I have to deal with.
Why wouldn't I want to make my business a happy place for myself and other employees to work at?
Why should I make allowances for people who's personality conflicts with mine or their fellow workers?

I don't care if you OWN your own business or not. I also have A LOT of shit to deal with. That's work.

If these people clash with your personality, why the fuck would you bother hiring them in the first place?

I've never run a small business, but I have been managing people for most of my working life, and I have never hired someone and then wanted to fire them due to a "personality clash" becaase if we clashed, I never would have hired them in the first place.

I'm also a pretty good judge of character.

I've fired around 5 people over the last 2 years over what I would call personality clashes. And the problem was definitely on their end.
I've also fired 3 for stealing...

So you're going to pretend to know the circumstances of those situations without knowing anything about them?

You have to admit, that's a large turnover of staff for a small business.

Not really.
The Hospitality industry has one of the highest turn overs of staff.
Not to mention I employ mainly casual staff.
I also made a typo, it should have read, over the last 5 years...

My biggest mistake? Employing friends and family...

No, it's not just work.
It's a totally different ball game...

Sometimes personality clashes develop over time.
They might not be there to begin with.
Doesn't mean they can't come out at a later date...

So have I.
It is not the same as being the owner of the business.
It does not compare, not even a little bit...

You've hired people?
Who and where?
You've never had a personality clash with a fellow worker?
