Sacking someone for a "personality clash" is a fucking cop out.

Providing the employee completes all tasks in line with the job description, who cares if you get on or not.

It also shows poor management skills, but that's another kettle of fish.

And how many small businesses have you operated, Craig?

There are about 3 people in my office that I do not get along with.

I would not consider that a clash though.

Yes our personalities don't gel - but we do our jobs, keep to ourselves and are civil. That's all you have to do. A clash, as mrkeys mentioned, would definitely have to be a bit more heated than just the fact that you wouldn't be social with them outside of work

Disagree.....

Just because there is a clash or personalities doesn't mean there has to be heated moments.

If both parties are proffesional about the situation then their relationship (personality specific) doesn't matter.

Of course it fucking matters.

I OWN my own business. I have A LOT of shit I have to deal with.
Why wouldn't I want to make my business a happy place for myself and other employees to work at?
Why should I make allowances for people who's personality conflicts with mine or their fellow workers?

dude agreed, please read what I have written...

Proffessionalism (part of I define as adaptability to your surroundings including the people) is a key to everything I think

I think I stated this in the thread.

Definitely.
I've fired around 5 people over the last 5 years over what I would call personality clashes. And the problem was definitely on their end.
I've also fired 3 for stealing...

Disagree.

My business is MY world.
I should be allowed to tailor it to suit my needs and personality.
If you don't fit into it, then bad luck!
I am no tyrant.
I put have up with a lot, and I mean A LOT of shit from my employees (Ask Chantel, she knows the crap I've had to deal with), but I wold never dream of firing someone on a whim.
I am an excellent commmunicator, and a very rational person, when it comes down to it.
But there does come a time when enough is enough.
I'm also a pretty good judge of character.
My problem is I'm probably a little to nice and lenient actually...

Dude I agree with one area of our current government's legislation Unfair Dismissal should not apply to Small Business owners in most cases.

There has to be a difference in which we treat you Luis as a small business owner and a global corporation (like I work for).

Personality Clashes cause alot more harm in your case as a small business owner whereas in a larger corporate environment this is bound to occur....

In terms of stealing that will cause your arse to get canned no matter where you are....

Exactly.
I'm only looking at this from a small business owners perspective.
That is what this whole thread is refering too.

If you want to talk about how much huge corporations suck, then start another thread, and I'll get on my soap box about that as well...
