I agree with Andrew in that I believe that eventually either MM9 or SK will have to fall in order for the other to survive. They could be survive, but it would need a lot of understanding by both parties.
The Bungle/FNM and Nucleus/APC examples aren't great ones to use. Mr Bungle actually had a four year break from 1992 to 1995, which allowed Patton time to work with FNM. By the end of '95, FNM were a well-establihed band, probably earning enough money to take some time off. Also, Bungle members had a multitude of other projects.
APC has some awesome music but I don't think it would have got the push without MJK on vocals. Originally Howerdel had a female vocalist in mind, which is why he asked Paz Lenchantin to join. It would of been interesting to see how APC would of done without MJK, but that's impossible.
I think a lot of this depends on the success of the new SK album. Because SK already has label backing and JJJ play, it's the project most likely to forge ahead out of the two. I think MM9 has the music to be successful, but they probably need to work a little harder to promoting themselves in the media. SK's lucky because it has label backing.
Like I said before, SK and MM9 can both survive together - it would be easier for Dan and Ben because they're in both projects, it would require Kerry and Luke to either get involved in other projects or compromise. However, this is all speculative and is based on the assumption that both SK and MM9 will become "big", which may not end up happening.
