Thursday Nov 24 08:00 AEST
Morning peak hour trains are being diverted from Sydney's Town Hall station due to a fire.
More than 700 people were evacuated from the underground station shortly after 7.30am AEDT when a fire was detected in overhead ducting, a NSW police spokesman said.
While the blaze was quickly extinguished, the station remains closed with no indication when it might reopen.
Town Hall is undergoing extensive renovations at the moment.
Rail commuters told ninemsn that all trains were being re-routed to Martin Place and Central train stations this morning. Commuters were being advised to avoid Town Hall.
The northbound bus lane on George Street between Bathurst and Park Streets has also been closed for emergency vehicles.
CityRail said rail tickets would be valid for use on Sydney Buses in light of the emergency.
More details as they become available.
