Jimi Hendrix?
The Mars Volta?
The list goes on....

Not to mention artists in other mediums, such as painting and writing.
The likes of William Burroughs and Hunter S Thompson basically made a career out of being drug addicts, and managed to produce some great work.

I just think it's a little ignorant to judge people on the fact that they may use the influence of drugs for creative purposes.
If it doesn't hurt anyone, and helps an artist produce, then why does it matter?

I have more contempt for these straight edge poofters...

What constitutes a 'straight edge poofter'?

All that William Burroughs and Hunter S Thompson do is glorify what can ultimately be a horrible habit.

I would like to know as well...what mindset?

People have been getting off their faces and writing music for like um eons...

I don't think you need to take drugs to write music, but alot of artists have written some amazing shit whilst off their noggins...

Like Bill Hicks said "If you don't believe drugs have done good things for us, then go home and burn all your records, all your tapes, and all your CDs because every one of those artists who have made brilliant music and enhanced your lives? RrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrEAL fucking high on drugs."

Amen....

I don't do drugs anymore but fuck I had fun when I did

Exactly.

I just don't get what Justin meant by purity.
You think YOU'RE pure, Justin?
Are you saying you are better, or your music is better than someone who chooses to take drugs?
Have ever you taken any drugs?

Have you ever heard of peyote?
It's a plant the American Indians take in a rite of passage, that promotes a spiritual awakening, and purifies the soul.
It's been a part of their culture for AGES, are you judging their spiritual beliefs too?

Look, if you don't want to indulge in drug taking, then that's your perogative.
I just don't see why there is a need to look down upon those that do.
It can be agreat Nucleus for creativity and enjoyment when used in moderation.

And as far as it being acceptable, you need a history lesson.
Look up music of the 60s...

Drug free, vegan obsessives, who feel the need to wear it on their sleeves, literally:

And listen to some of the worst music imaginable, hardcore punk, a la Minor Threat...

Glorify?
How much Burroughs and Thompson have you actually read?

Well, what did you mean by it then?

I was just pointing out that the majority of artists we listen to today, have been under the influence of drugs whilst producing music.

Wethere it's ok or not is irrelevant, it just is...
