Melt Banana

“Delirious, insane and stunning.” The Skinny, UK

Melt Banana is a Japanese noise-rock group founded in the early 90s by a group of friends at Tokyo University. A hyperactive music palette draws influences from experimental rock, grindcore, no wave, psychedelia, hardcore punk and post-punk.

A wild fusion of sound and energy, Melt Banana’s music falls under what many call ‘noise-rock’ or ‘noisecore.’ The band has received huge international acclaim, has released nine albums to date and have worked with artists as diverse as Merzbow, John Zorn, Mike Patton and Discordance Axis.

A collision of rapid fire vocal delivery from spunky front woman Yasuko, frenetic guitar action from Agata, costumes galore, surgical masks and duct tape, a Melt Banana show is quite the experience.

Minutes vs. Margins
Two up and coming Melbourne bands come together to explore each other’s musical worlds

This project, conceived specifically for the Festival, provides the musicians with the opportunity to explore a larger dynamic range, as well as instrumentations only made possible by combining two already complete ensembles.

The resulting group explores existing pieces of music, performed by the respective bands, as well as music written specifically for the large ensemble, all with a focus on improvisation and spontaneity.

Super Rydeen Machine
Super Rydeen Machine is a band put together by Shags Chamberlain as a tribute to Japanese Synth Pop legends Yellow Magic Orchestra. This is a special Festival performance/DJ set incorporating members of the KOKO~NUTS! ensemble.

I have no idea.

I might be interviewing them so I'll ask...
