You’ll know her from Throwing Muses, and 20 years and 15 albums into her career Kristin Hersh is coming back to the country as a solo artist in support of new release Learn to Sing Like a Star.
She’s swung back and forth between solo and collaborative work over the years but Learn to Sing Like a Star represents Kristin at her very best as a solo artist. It features strings played by British pals Martin and Kim McCarrick while her bandmate David Narcizo from Throwing Muses supplies the drums, but Kristin was responsible for everything else.
“No sound went down on this record unchallenged,” she says. “If we’d heard it before – a surf-guitar, for instance – we layered it with piano reverb, tubular bells, and backwards bass to create an unusual hybrid tone with more character.”
It’ll be her first visit to Australia since 1994, so fans will be lining up for this one. Tickets go on sale on Monday August 27.
