Wrong

Cd's are "about the music"

Live shows are exactly that and should be the complete package

Wrong.
It might be that way for you.
But music, and it's enjoyment, is subjective.
I don't need to see people jumping around like monkeys with pretty lights in order to enjoy a show....

I didnt say jumping around, thats not the point
I go to see a live show because I already enjoy the music (in most cases) I like to see how they interept their own music, Its not about jumping around, swearing and all that shyte its about the performance side of music, or the art of it

They don't have a very good live show.

I'm all for just seeing songs played live, but I find them boring. that's all they do and it's not very impressive.

probably has to do with the fact I don't get much out of their music anyway.

I've still given them a go a few times though on the basis of people telling me how great it is, I'm not dissmissing it without having seen it, or judging it on a 3-4 year ago memory. dig it.

No

Im not arguing about specific bands .....

What I disagree with is the statement, its about the music

cause thats not the whole picture, I enjoy watching Cog but do not think I would enjoy watching them as much if they just stood there like russian dolls hard as wood

I also enjoy watching schlauncher not the best musically in the world but you cannot help enjoying yourself

I spose thats the great thing about music, its different for everyone

Cog are not the most exciting live band for me either.
But, I do enjoy alot of their music (The most recent stuff anyway), hence their live show.
I guess the main reason I enjoy them live is watching Lucius be a bad cunt...

I heard Cog live first - probably way too many times for my own good and so was a fan of their 'live music' before they had any recorded material that I could listent to at home.

There was something exciting and electric in the air everytime I saw them - it could have been the heat of everyone crammed in to catch a glimpse of Sydney's hottest new hard rock band; watching them grow as performers and becoming more comfortable on stage each time; and knowing that these guys, if anyone, were the ones to crack into the Aussie mainstream.

I loved watching the crowd grow after every show. Watching people's facial expressions of "WTF is is?" or simply "FARRRRRK YEAH!!!!".

I love Cog's live show. It's intense.

I enjoy seeing Cog for their music moreso than their performance (with Lucius being the exception). I think their old sets pre-New Normal were more exciting and that the old songs came across better live. Now, I might think that because, like Channy said before, there was a certain excitement about Cog gigs back then, or maybe it is because the old songs are just better live than on record. "Moshiach" live will kick any Cog songs arse! Also, Lucius was more entertaining in the older songs, he's reeled himself back a lot since the EP days.

A problem from the start I think, for Cog, has been the predictabiltiy of their sets. During the JV Part 1 days they played the same set for something like two years straight... you always knew they'd open with Moshiach, play Holes and end with Just Visiting. Killer set, and it's a shame JV has been wiped out completely, but they were still predictable.

These days, Cog do mix up the order but you know what they'll play. I'd like to see them mix it up, play more of the older songs, play some of the tracks off The New Normal that don't get played live often like Naming the Elephant, or Charades, or the River Song.

All that said, I'll be there on Saturday night!

Holy shit, yeah!

He used to go (if you can imagine) even more nuts! With hella more improvisation. Often pulling out the most insane drum solos I've ever had the pleasure of witnessing.

The reason they did that was because it gave the audience a chance to learn the songs - become really familiar with them as there was no recorded material (other than the oh so many bootleg tapes and videos).

I miss JV heaps. That's my No. 1 by far

I'm sure you remember "Open Up" from the Roma Room gig (which had Bob Sledge and Three Second Memory on the bill)... that was an incredible performance!

Yeah that's understandable, but also, a lot of the crowd were return viewers... a few of us used to chase Cog round Sydney, see them everywhere!

Have you got the old Pseudo demo, with the loooooooong version of Bondi?

Why don't they play it anymore? It's such a great set-closer, with Flynn going nuts on the delay pedal!
