Mz Ann Thropik - EP Launch @ Gaelic Club - 28 April 2007!!!

Bleeding from nose, throat & ears

Postby Chantel » Sat May 12, 2007 11:26 pm

that's absolutely hilarious.

I honestly do not believe we have a goth sound at all. It's a mix of punk, rock and pop.

Also, Magdalena is the only one that has a slight resemblence to anything goth - but even then I'd consider her much more punk than goth...

I reckon Paper Champion come across as more goth orientated than Mz Ann...

Good thing ours is free then.
I touched her hand... her hand touched her boob. By the transitive property, I got boob! Algebra's awesome!

Firstly, the obvious fuck up...

Mz Ann Thropik has FIVE members, NOT four.

Oops, my bad, apologies for that one! But that's the only thing I'm sorry for.

Hitman wrote:Secondly, the stupid shit...

No one cares that you felt left out because of how you were dressed. Their was plenty of people there in jeans and a t-shirt, many of my friends for instance, and none of them felt the least bit out of place. Also, what's with the black hair and goth reference, and yet failing to mention that both Magdalena and Chantel had blonde hair? IF you are going to discuss the merits hair color in a music review, at least have the decency to present a balanced opinion...

Anyway, onto my main point...

Now, it's obvious that you are not a fan of Magdalena, and the bulk of that review was aimed at her, and yes, I guess it is pretty much her band...BUT, Chantel also happens to be in that band, and a major contributor at that.

Remember Chantel? Your "friend"? A person that has supported your musical endeavours since before I even knew her? The "friend" who has been to more of your bands shows than any of your other friends combined?

You do understand that the night of the CD launch was a HUGE achievement for Chantel, right? You know as much as I do that Chantel lives and breathes music. You know that it has been a dream of hers to be a performer, musician, songwriter, and to actually achieve something within the music industry. You and I and most of the musos we know have had those same dreams ever since we were kids...

And there she was, at that the end of a long journey, and the beginning of another one. Up on stage at the Gaelic, in front of close to 400 people, made up of fans, friends, family and supporters, celebrating a work which she helped create...

And what do you do? Publicly shit on it.
You, her "friend", mention her once, fleetingly, and proceed to slag her band.

Very nice. I hope you're proud of yourself...

So you're saying I should have lied in my review?

It's interesting how all see what we want to see, isn't it? That the positive aspects of the review, such as the stage presence and the positives about 'Dynamite' were ignored?

At the end of the day, I don't really care what you think. It's my review, hence my opinion. If you don't like it, bad luck. I've given bad reviews to people I know before. It's part and parcel of being in a band.

I told her Chantel on the night that she did an awesome job up there, but I'm not given the room in a 300 word space to talk about all the members.

Of course, shall I point out what you said in the last page Luis:

Agreed.

I reckon Brad has that goth kinda thing going on.... and Magdalena certainly has it to some degree, and has admitted so in a few interviews I have read..... But she has also made the point of not being pigeon holed, and i think she has a mix on infulences, visually, that she pulls off very well.

Most of the fans however I would pigeon hole as "goth"..... But I fail to see how the band has any say in who like their music.....

All in all I think it's a poorly written review, which is typical of the brag imo.

The one or two valid points raised are nulled by the opening paragraph of Dom feeling like "the odd one out"..... I have never felt like that in the 10 or so MzAnn gigs I have been to when not playing in the band..... And I'm a 6'6 bogan from Campbelltown....

The band, and the crowd have always been very accepting towards me.

Even my mum said that the crowd were an extremely welcoming bunch of people who made her feel included and comfortable.
