There wasn't that many people there (probably because of the attitude of "I'm not going to support a band I really like because they're not playing in a venue I want them to play in")

They played really well and it was a great chance for them to work on the new songs live a bit more.

Yeah, I reckon they played really well, and some of the newer songs are actually growing on me.

There wasn't a lot of people there, but the ones that were really enjoyed it. People made the effort to stand up the front, groove, cheer and clap in between songs. There was a really good festive vibe in the room.

They even managed to sell some CD's and shirts...

Great night....

That fucking venue is hilarious though...

Yeah, i was there and i can attest to the festive behaviour of the punters standing up the front and saw people buying merch. "Samovstrecha" is a great song to close with. Shame they didn't play "Ism" and a few other songs i was hoping to hear, but the songs they did play were great.

Although the sound at the Mandarin Club can be shit, i don't think it was toooo bad for Junto. And if you're a band worried about that kind of thing, do what Vulture and Jack Nasty Face did last night and have your own sound engineer dude in control.

The fact that there wasn't many people there for Junto would also be attributed to the fact that they played on a Thursday night, which tends to draw less people no matter what venue you're at. Perhaps could've been advertised slightly more too. i don't think the Mandarin Club (downstairs) is the worst venue in Sydney to go as a punter, regardless of how shady they might be dealing with the actual bands ...and if done right, provided people don't have the attitude of "i'm not going to the Mandarin Club!", a band can perform at their best live and put on a great show with a great audience.

One of the bands (albeit a band i didn't like) brought quite a crowd with them and they were going off, so it's not like it never happens.

A band should play anywhere, anytime and audience should be willing to see bands anywhere, anytime. A bad performance is one where the band doesn't put anything into it and just play sloppy. And that can happen at any venue, in front of any audience. It's up to the band to make a good impression, first and foremost. Everything else is secondary, or even tertiary.
