In refererence to Superb Lyrebird...

i guess i mainly disagree coming from a more subjective point of view of this band, but my main focus is own the synths and drums. James being the most interesting member of the band and all. With the lights and everything, it still feels like an Alien/UFO experience/encounter.

In a way I sort of disagree with myself as I actually quite like the CD :?

Definitely not a bad band though. I was surprised how much I dug Gang Awry's music even though it's not the kind of thing I usually listen to. Captain's Package is always good ofcourse, but I found this gig a lot more enjoyable than most of the previous ones.
Sui Zen was good to chill out to, though the music didn't particularly blow my head off.

i'm glad you like it, but i can't afford to buy another one anytime soon.

Sorry, dude, I've just been heaps busy...and can barely gather a thought that isn't what I'm currently working on...

The gig was fantastic.

Captain's Package have improved ten fold since I first saw them many years ago. They were even a lot better than last time a few months ago. I honestly find it hard to flaw their performance on Friday. I also loved the dual vocal/vocal harmonies. I guess the only negative is that like most bands, they tend to get a bit samey, especially towards the end. That has a lot to do with similar keyboard sounds from song to song, and even the guitarist doesn't really stray too far with his sound or technique. The best player in the band was the drummer...

Superb. Well you already know I like these guys, and Friday night proved exactly why. Easily the strongest set I've seen them do. The place was packed. There was an excellent vibe in the room. I absolutely loved the addition of the percussionists in a few songs. Again, performance wise, they cannot be flawed. I really feel that Dave should branch out a little more stylisticly though. A lot of the riffs ended up sounding like copies of Self riffs and progressions. I was not the only person to point this out btw. I also don't feel they have 1 or 2 REALLY strong songs, as potential "hits" or singles. I mean, even Self have Smoke. I think all Superb needs is some Smoke of it's own...

Anyway, I was absolutely blown away on Friday regardless...

Also, I forgot to grab a CD...

i think the cd is great.

The only thing for me that lets this cd down is the drum production, and i also though the same for Self's 'Perspective' cd which was also recorded at Noisegate.
the sounds for the 3 members up front are great, there are interesting textures, vocal effects, crazy synth, cool bass distortion etc.
But i feel that the changes in music do not correspond well with the drums. the drum sound is pretty raw and doesnt really move much from that. i think with a bit more space/dynamics it would really enhance what is going on with the other instruments.

Having said this, i guess its jsut a dig at the production side.

i think the guys are really creative and dig their musical style like almost no other band on the scene. I'm spewing i missed out on the show, from what i heard, it was amazing.
