Helmet to me will ALWAYS be that Meantime lineup...regardless of Page's obvious dominance within the band...kind of how Smashing Pumpkins will always be with D'arcy and James, even though Billy wrote all the songs etc...

...etc. being that he (Billy) PERFORMED all the guitar and bass parts on recorded songs (well most of the songs, at least on some of the albums). And on stage they may as well have been cardboard cut-outs (damn! they should've done that!).

I know exactly what you mean...and I definitely agree with you to an extent...but at the end of the day, a band is more than the sum of it's parts...ever since Mellon Collie, the band has never been the same...same in regards to Meantime...I put it down to the change in line up...

Probably. Although Machina was recorded with the full four members of the classic SP line-up. Auf der Maur didn't join until after the album was finished.

And even though Meantime is Helmet's opus work.... I still loooooooooooovvvvvvvvvvvvvvve Betty. Mind you, that line up change only consisted of losing the apparently Brisbane boy, Pete Mengende, being the rhythm guitarist (a role now filled by a much less talented Australian boy) and was the most expendable give Paige's the main guitarist.

To anyone who kissed out on this. The show fucking KILLED! It FAR exceeded my expectations.

I still can't believe the whole of Meantime...so tight and beautiful.

Also got to meet and chat with Page over beers after the show at the Madison. Fuck I was wasted...still feeling it...ha ha...

i went to the UOW show too - and fuck, i had never seen helmet before - but they killed it, page invited a guy from the crowd SAM up , cause he was a fat nerdy kid who was a massive fan - and he grabbed pages guitar and played one of the songs from start to finsih and NAILED it (apparently ...)

i dont know the song names or anything ...

but pages on stage banter is also awesome
