I guess the reason I love the show so much is the great lines, stories too but the lines are to die for.. I fell in love with this way before the show showed it's great dark side and fantastic uberplot
Have to say for me hands down the funniest characters on the show where Xander, Anya and Cordellia but everyone had their good share of lines..

Buffy: What are you doing here. Five words or less.
Spike: Out. For. A. Walk . . . Bitch.
Buffy: When he wakes up tell him... I don't know. Think of something cool, tell him I said it.
Man: This is a private club. Featured word: Private.
Angel: You don't talk to me, I'll kick your ass. Featured word: Ass.
Willow: 'Kiss rocks'? Why would anyone want to kiss... Oh, wait. I get it.
Willow: So Faith was like, "I'm gonna beat you up," and I'm all, "I'm not afraid of you." And then she had the knife, which was less fun.
Cordelia: Oh, you mean 'cause of how the only guy that ever liked her turned into a vicious killer and had to be put down like a dog?
Xander: Can she cram complex issues into a nutshell, or what?
I think it was all about the pacing....Whedon is a genius don't even get me started on Firefly..
