New Bjork album

Postby Chantel » Thu Feb 22, 2007 1:48 pm

Bjork is working on a new album that'll be out in May.

She's collaborated with a whole bunch of interesting people like Timbaland, Antony of the Johnsons and Toumani Diabate who plays the kora, a 21 string African instrument that's a bit like a harp.

Bjork's been confirmed on the line-up of heaps of big international festivals for this year including Coachella, Glastonbury and Roskilde. No rumour yet of an Australian visit but we'll let you know if we hear anything here on the music news on triple j.

The Icelandic princess of quirky pop is about to unleash Volta, her first full-length album since 2004’s Medulla. Entirely written and produced by Bjork, the album also sees her take up a number of intriguing musical collaborations that includes production deity Timbaland and Anthony Hegarty, of Anthony And The Johnsons fame.

Other featured artists include electronic pioneer Mark Bell from LFO, and drum work from Chris Corsano and Brian Chippendale from Lightening Bolt. She also recruited a number of famed African musicians to add texture and put together her a ten-piece female brass section of Icelandic musicians who play on three further tracks.

You can see the fruits of this musical labour when Volta hits the record shelves on May 5, 2007. Björk is confirmed for various festival appearances through 2007 including Coachella, Glastonbury, Werchter and Roskilde.

Sweeeeeeeeet! Timbaland, that's gonna be awesome.
I touched her hand... her hand touched her boob. By the transitive property, I got boob! Algebra's awesome!

Like Bjork's fashion tastes, you either love or hate her music.Still,Volta may be her most accessible outing in years. This could be down to the fact that Timbaland (who's worked with Justin Timberlake and Nelly Furtado) has produced a few tracks. But the best thing is that it's Bjork continuing to do whatever she pleases -oblivious to commericial constraints - in an industry that's becoming ever more homogenised. And you've gotta love that.
