It's funny, the only band I ever wrote and performed stuff for whilst on drugs other than alocohol, was The Merkins.
Which was not surprising as we were pretty much a "stoner" band...

How much Burroughs and Thompson have you actually read?

Badly phrased. My bad. Their character glorifies drug use not their work. They are either wrongly or rightly used as reasons why drug use is good for creativity. Like it somehow is the only way to bring out their 'genius'.

It probably was for them.
I don't agree on the glorifing though.
Maybe others have for them, but Burroughs for one mainly focused on the negatives of his drug addcition.

I just think it's the actually work produced that should be the focus.
If someones use of drugs helped achieve a work of greatness, then so be it...

Dude, this is rock n roll.
Most of your favourite artists use drugs when performing!

Well if most of them do it, it must be OK!

Why th condescending tone?

Wasn't meant to be condescending. :D

Well, what did you mean by it then?

I was just pointing out that the majority of artists we listen to today, have been under the influence of drugs whilst producing music.

Wethere it's ok or not is irrelevant, it just is...

There is sometimes a fine line between liking someones music and liking everything that an artist is about.

I liked some of Nirvanas music. But I liked nothing about Kurt Cobain because of his drug use and his attitude towards it. I didn't know the guy personally but that is how I saw it. Perhaps a bad example because it is not a band I was totally into anyway.

I was merely backing up what Dom said. I have no respect for someone who 'needs' to be under the influence to do what they do. Whether that is the majority or not.

Whether I like what they create is another thing.

And my point is that this has less to do with drug use, and more to do with personality.

Your example of Cobain is a good one. I don't think I would have liked the guy wether he was on drugs or not.
His addiction to drugs, and his eventual demise, confirmed what a low life piece of shit he was.

Same with Anthony Keidis. Complete asshole, wether on drugs or not.

And they both wrote sub par music, and are highly over rated IMO.
Nothing to do with drugs, and more to do with their shit personalitites.

I just don't see how someones use of a drug instantly = no respect.

From my experience on the subject that is easier said than done.
