Essential Recordings !ALBUMS YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT!

Techniques to stimulate the vestibule

Hmmm, what did you want to know?

Yes, they are Aussie, and Sydney boys to boot...

I first heard of Massapeal when they released Jazz in the early 90s. They'd been around for a while before then. I'd always hear them playing around the place with bands like The Hard Ons. The 2 main guys are Randy Reimann on vocals and Brett Curotta on guitar. I think bass and drums have changed quite a bit over the years. I wasn't a huge fan of Jazz, and it's hardcore punk leanings. Just sounded like noise for the sake of noise to me.

That all changed with The Mechanic, which included Sean Fonti, of Caligula and later Primary fame, on bass duties. It was a lot less "punky, and way more experimental and technical. Even poppy in parts. It just really hit me at the time, as I was making the transition from metal head, to more left of centre stuff, thanxs to Faith No More and the like.

I'm pretty sure The Mechanic is next to impossible to find these days, so I'd be happy to burn you a copy...

If you so please. Maybe split it with the Merkins stuff if there's room. Or Secret Chiefs 3. :)

Although, since Nobody Likes a Thinker and Jazz have been re-released recently, perhaps it's not long until The Mechanic is too.

Just remind me before the next gig that we'll both be attending...
