New Portishead material!!

Postby Chantel » Wed Feb 28, 2007 7:19 pm

Portishead have debuted new material at a secret show in London. Appearing under the guise of Grumpy Man DJ’s, Geoff Barrow, Adrian Utley and Beth Gibbons debuted new material at Bristol club Mr Wolf’s.

The new material stopped patrons in their tracks, with many jaws left gaping at the beauty of the new material. Portishead began the impromptu two song set with Wandering Star and then debuted the new yet untitled track.

People had crammed the venue to see Barrow play an eclectic DJ set, they were lucky enough to witness the debut of the first new material since the bands second, self titled album.

Robbie caught up with Katalyst this week. Producer Ashley Anderson is a buddy of Geoff Barrow of Portishead and he was happy to confirm the rumours that the Bristol trio have a new album on the way.

"Yeah it's done and I'm heading over the play at All Tomorrow's Parties in December when they're doing their first gig in ten years. Then yeah next year it will be upon us. Robbie I'll bring you a secret copy back form the UK."

Portishead have confirmed that they will release a new album next year – their first in over in a decade. And there’s sure to be a lot of fans very happy about this news.

10 years after their self-titled second record, Geoff Barrow, Beth Gibbons and Adrian Utley finally look set to return with new material.

According to reports, the currently untitled LP will hit stores in March. There are no other details, although it is expected to come out on Island Records.

As previously reported, Barrow, Gibbons and Utley curate All Tomorrow’s Parties’ Nightmare Before Christmas next month, playing a rare show of their own. Other bands on the bill include The Horrors, Fuck Buttons, Ladytron, Black Mountain and Aphex Twin.
