'quiet music for quiet people' is a completely improvised recording project. inga had long been thinking of this project, to improvise a stripped back desert inspired music that explored space and atmospheres conjuring the desert at night, the starry clear skies, the heat and sweat, and a romantic pining, where incidental sound textures such as paper shuffling, chair squeaks, and creaking floorboards played an equal role to the musical notes we played.
the project was recorded over two nights in august, in surry hills, sydney in a small one room studio. having never played together as a group before may have been exactly what this music needed, as there is a definite trepidation and anticipation at times, each player a little unstable in his steps, listening to what was being created as a whole.
the musicians set up in that one room- drums, cello, double bass. laptop, piano, glockenspiel, lap steel, and poetry books. the lights were turned out and the tape rolled....and this is the music that came of it.
there are flaws and weaknesses, all essential in this recipe. a broken-folk music that resounds frailty and unrequited love.
