Are you a fan, or not a fan, of Josh's drumming?

I don't see it as any of those. Who are they rehashing, how can you claim something is uninspired, and I think a lot of it is quite imaginative.

I don't care if you don't see it.
I can HEAR it.

Are you honestly saying they sound original to you?

They're as original as they could be in that genre of music. It's extremely difficult to be original these days (without alienating a whole section of the market and thus ending some small chance of success), and just because a band's influences come out in their songs doesn't mean they're crap. They could of stuck to 4/4, unoriginal song structures and meandered on in typical alt-rock stylings, but they brought to the genre a style that was out of the ordinary.

I think A Perfect Circle brought a sense of intelligence back to the alternative scene an a time when most of the music in the scene was nu-metal. APC paved the way for bands to actually break out of that mold, and along with acts like Radiohead (circa Kid A/Amnesiac) and Nucleus (circa Lateralus), they showed people that music could be heavy and melodic and have some substance.

Just to note, while Radiohead aren't heavy, they showed people that experimentation could sound great and be successful too. Though I'm not putting APC in the same league as Radiohead - whilst I love APC, Radiohead are far more original and push more boundaries.
