Firefly & Serenity

It's really sad that Fox cancelled this series, it was a great twist of western and sci-fi.

The arrogant captain, the "Escort", the IMO annoying mechanic (My roomate kicks my ass every time I say that, I've gotten so many noogies *cries*), The awesome pilot  and his wife, the crazy chick (she's so cool 8)) and her brother and the pastor made an awesome crew.

I still remember watching the movie and at one point, Mike comes in and asks Pat what just happened, he had gone to the restroom. Pat, who hadn't watched the show before says "It's the Ravers man, the Ravers are attacking" and I look at him and start laughing "It's not a dance club dude, it's Reavers"

It had a great premiss, though it was a little slow to start but then again so was Babylon 5 and it was just the build up that was slow, once the story got going, it was really interesting. They should have given Firefly more of a chance IMO

Some good quotes from the movie

Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: Do you want to run this ship?
Jayne Cobb: Yes!
Capt. Malcolm Reynolds: [caught off guard] Well... you can't...

Dr. Simon Tam: In all that time on the ship... I've always regretted... not being with you.
Kaylee Frye: With me? You mean to say... as in sex?
Dr. Simon Tam: I mean to say.
Kaylee Frye: To Hell with this. I'm gonna live!

I don't think Malcolm Reynolds is arrogant. Many times he has shown compassion, heroism, love, kindness but he has a dark underside unlike your cardboard cut-out heroes. He can show anger and violence if pushed to it.

I love all of the characters - they all have their faults and their strengths and together they give you all the colours of the human condition (yeh I am really into this show..)

I think the show is based on a very simple premise. The search for family and a home...the knowledge that when you are running from something you are usually running towards something. It's alot more deep than Buffy to me. Kind of Whedon maturing alittle I think...don't get me wrong I love Buffy but something about Firefly struck a deep deep chord with me.

Yes it is a Western even moreso a story of the days after the US Civil War with the government that has taken over the Union whilst Reynolds etc fought for the Independants (Confederates)...

some amazing episodes. Best sci-fi TV show since Babylon 5 and Blake's 7 as I have said before..

Leaves Star Trek and others for dead....
