Yes, the fact that there was 5000 people basically protesting against and attacking people based on their appearance/race/ethnicity IS stupid.

I have lived here for 30 years, and basically grew up in the shire, and yet I would have gotten my ass kicked, whilst 5000 people just stood around and watched, not to mantion attack the Police and Ambo's that would have tried to help me. I think I'm allowed to be a little pissed off about this situation...

I agree it would have been beautiful if people had of gathered just for a bit of a peaceful show of people power. That would have been an amazing gesture. As my friend Chris who surfs at Cronulla a bit was saying (so I gues this is pretty much 2nd hand) there is no excusing the bullshit the shire folk have been having to put up with for a couple of years.

But the loonies have tarred the whole community there now as racist and violent.

And as for the Nazi's - fuck I thought that shit was over and done with..

and as for the whole what could I do against 100 people, there were probably 4000 other peoplr there thinking the same thing..... Imagine if 1 person had acted against it maybe the other 4000 might have followed a lead

The cops have had their hands tied for fear of creating racial tension amonst lebanese community...however their inaction has lead to years of abuse which culminated with the bashing of the lifeguards a couple weeks ago. Basically the government or police was doing nothing to protect the community, so the community decided to stand up. Its a shame that bad elements in the crowd wrecked something that could have been good.

yeah i was surprised to see neo nazis down there...there were lots of ring ins, like random people pushing their white australia type agendas. crazy bastards.
