As you'll all be aware, the situation cracked when a gang of men with "middle eastern appearance" bashed two lifeguards on Cronulla beach. The "call" went out to "Aussies" to stand up for their way of life. So the rough-necks of society... the bikie gangs, the "Bra Boys" and a whole bunch of other people not from the Shire came in and started causing shit.

My main point here is that, although I'm not much of a fan of the Shire despite the fact that I live here, it's not the Shire that entirely to blame, there's lot of other people from outside the area coming in and giving it a bad name.

Now the bad reputation has spread to Australia in general; an image which is being broadcasted around the world.

yeah well its not just in the shire anymore... its out this way too... i was driving home today and seen a big aussie flag with see ya sunday sprayed in white on a fence... its was only done last night.... also word around here is that people are pick sides... and they are against all people who look ethnic.

Wrong. The 'bra boys' and the bikie gang have spoken out against the riots and met with the leader of the Islam friendship group to try and find ways to calm everything down.

There was 5000 people there, are you honestly going to sit there and tell me that the majority of the people there weren't from the Shire??

I basically grew up there, and I became quite familiar over the years with the majority POV regarding race etc within the Shire...

Ok i have only read 2 pages of this but im getting the idea that you all have absolutely no idea about what happened down at Cronulla on Sunday. i will give you a little insight.

The day started just like Australia day, national pride a plenty and the beer flowing. The majority of the crowd were just mingling around, chatting and were well behaved. There were parents with kids in strollers, elderly...watever. The REASONS for the "protest" had nothing to do with RACISM, it had more to do with the blatent disrespect that visitors had shown for the beach, the people and the environment. Basically, everyone was sick of being intimidated, threatened and harassed everytime they went down to the beach on the wkend.

However, this all turned ugly around lunch when racist groups within the crowd started preaching their message. There were Neo Nazis, the "patriotic youth league" etc. None of which i have ever seen in Cronulla.

Contrary to media reports, there was only about 100-150 in "the mob" down there. Thats is all the media focussed on. The scenes where people were screaming "FUCK OFF LEBS" were greatly misrepresented. The amount of people actually participating in this kind of chanting numbered about 100, at the very most. All of which were blatent drunk dickheads who just looking for a fight. The other 4800/4900 people in Cronulla were neither participating in the racial chant or the violence.

I am not making excuses for what happened nor am i denying what happened, im just trying to shatter the image that the media has portrayed of the events.
