agreed...

You agree with that, but you still feel NO degree of sympathy at all for them? You don't think people change? You don't think peole can learn from their mistakes? You think an 18 year old kid deserves to spend the rest of his life in jail because of one stupid mistake he made when he was barely old enough to buy a beer?

Ummm that unfortunately is the law of the land it's sad but we have to draw lines in the sand somewhere.

If enough people agree with you they can vote for change either here or in Indonesia. Is it tough yes it is...do I believe in different types of drug laws yes I do...I am all in favour of more relaxed drug laws but I am also in favour of complying with the laws of the land. Without the rule of law society breaks down. We can change these kinds of things but only through peaceful "democratic" means.

So umm yeh, yes I waffled somewhere along the line.

You are completley missing my point.

I am not arguing the laws, or debating the fact that they knew about these laws. They are in place for whatever reason and that is fine.

My point is that with all that in mind, it's still a very sorry situation for 9 young (all be it guilty, misguided and stupid) Australians. You can rave on about laws and society pro's, con's and rites of passage all you want - they fact is I still feel some degree of sympathy for them, and quite frankly am a bit baffled at how you three feel nothing.

It's not that I don't feel nothing, I just don't feel sympathy for them that is all. At some point one must chooses actions and therefore must face certain consequences.

Refer to my previous posts. Yes people can be redeemed, rehabilitated all of that. But a sovereign nation has decided on penalties for certain crimes it might be tough but that is the way it is.

So Craig if they where men in there 50's they would not be worthy of sympathy? It's cause they are young and naive. What if they where old and naive. Or does age somehow impart wisdom on you?

this cult of youth thing is silly to me...
